The WFAD is a multilateral community of non-governmental organisations and individuals. With

over 490 member organisations in 71 countries, our joint aims include strengthening prevention, increasing access to treatment, and promoting recovery. Our work pillars include advocacy at international and regional level, capacity strengthening for our members, and international development projects together with members. We hold ECOSOC status and place particular focus on the rights and needs of women and children within our field.

We are now looking for a Communication Manager and Policy Advocacy Officer

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Communication Manager and Policy Advocacy Officer will support the Secretariat in planning and implementing various activities, including capacity strengthening and projects, while leading the communication and advocacy activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research a variety of references, literature, documents, newspapers, and statistical records to obtain data on assigned subjects
  • Analyse and evaluate the applicability of collected data
  • Assist with coordination of projects and [virtual] events and conferences
  • Design communication strategies and develop content for the organisation’s social media, website, and newsletters.
  • Coordinates member applications and communication
  • Organises and maintains accurate and up-to-date information list servers, member register, and other databases
  • Provides technical support and conducts the research necessary to the development of media campaigns
  • Research and acquire knowledge/information on drug policy, prevention, treatment, and recovery
  • Develop [policy] statements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s or master’s Degree from an accredited University or College with a major in Public Health, Political Science, Social Science, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that allows the incumbent to perform the requirements associated with the position will be considered.
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge in drug policy, prevention, treatment, and recovery. Knowledge of the field, policy, and international functions are advantageous.
  • Fluent in English and Swedish
  • Knowledge of French or Spanish is advantageous.

What we offer you
We offer you a contract for 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The office is located in Gothenburg, but we offer the possibility to work hybrid. Due to the size of the Secretariat, you will have the opportunity to gain a diverse set of skills and deploy a wide range of tasks. The international nature of the job connects you with colleagues from all over the world. The position might involve traveling.
